Building a Dementia Friendly Community in Prairie du Chien

The ADRC of Eagle Country – Prairie du Chien office is leading the way in the region becoming Dementia friendly.  The ADRC of Eagle Country Prairie du Chien, in conjunction with the Crawford County Public Health Department, have been establishing a Dementia Friendly Coalition in the Crawford County area.  The group has already had a few meetings, the last of which was a “Train the Trainer” meeting with Becky DeBuhr from the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Alliance.  Becky DeBuhr lead the group in a lesson on how to go back to their businesses and train their staff to be dementia friendly.  The training was attended by 24 people, representing 15 different businesses/organizations.  Once each business has trained 50% of their front line staff they are considered a Dementia Friendly Business and will receive a certificate and Purple Angel window cling to let customers know that they are dementia friendly.  This process will be repeated early in 2016 with additional interested businesses.  The Eagle Country Region hopes to have similar coalitions and trainings taking place in all offices in 2016. 11-17-2015 Dementia friendly train the trainer
